emerald1 is the current holder of the Network Six Northern Ireland franchise licence. Until November 2009, it was owned by Vanquish Broadcasting, and it is currently owned by Londay Television. emerald1 is broadcast in standard definition on all platforms held by Network Six.
[edit] History
emerald1 won the licence to operate the Northern Ireland franchise unopposed in the 2009 Network Six Franchise Round. Originally branded as Emerald, the decision was taken to rename the station to ensure a smooth transition from incumbent franchise holder SBC One.
[edit] Buy-out
In November 2009, Londay Television had bought Emerald Television Ltd for a sum of £45.9 million. The company's plans were to retain all local content, as well as creating new programmes and vacancies.
