National franchise

A national franchise is a specific channel or program broadcast through all regional franchises within a network. The regional franchise operators are generally not involved in national franchises, and may only opt out in the case of emergency or for regional activities as contracted by the national franchise operator. Currently there are four National Franchises within Network Six.

The National News Franchise on Channel 6 broadcasts a regional network syndicated programme, operated and produced by a certain company with no interference on a regional level. Within Network Six, the national franchises are run by Taff Media, The National News and Breakfast franchise. Within the hours of 0600 and 0925, services carried on Network Six's digital terrestrial television multiplex, and teletext accross all platforms, is operated by the national breakfast franchise holder.
Within ITV, the national franchises are ITN (national news), GMTV (national breakfast) and Teletext (national teletext service).

The Second Channel franchise is a nationwide channel that is carried on the NetworkSix multiplex and is up for tender at each franchise round. The current channel is SixFlix from Taff Media.
