Western is the Network Six service in the South West region, owned by Western Media. The station launched in March 2006 on both the West and South West licence areas, and the two were managed as a single unit. After a breif re-brand to RTL Western and RTL uk, the company lost its West franchise in the 2009 franchise round to sweynWest, which led to the remaining South West service to be re-branded as sou'west tv.

In the 2010 franchise round, sou'west successfully regained its franchise, and has again re-branded back to its original name, 'Western.
